As Producer and Director, (and mostly everything else!) I remain so thankful for the Indiegogo donors for their fantastic support. Most all the people are my friends and so that makes their help very sweet. The strangers are really sweet as they have no idea about my history or vision or ability to provide a real product. Amazing! I also have people who have donated through IFP MN and that is actually better for the bottom line. It just doesn’t have the visual component but all donations go in support of finishing funds for the film.
With the Winter Olympics in Sochi less than one year away it seems a natural that this film would have an even wider audience than it typically would. After all it was Morris Chalfen’s swap of the Moscow Circus for Holiday on Ice that helped East West relations. The ice shows went to Russia when it was behind the Iron Curtain. The ice shows traversed that as a troupe before most groups our individuals could travel there.
Holiday on Ice must have looked like a dream in those dark days. I am sure they delivered a performance that could thaw political boundaries. Certainly they helped to inspire as the glitz and glamor of the ice shows were a contrast to the bleak life behind the iron curtain. So the next Olympics will make The Fabulous Ice Age perfect programing to see how figure skating has been a part of live-entertainment for a decade now.
Recently Ice Theatre of New York showed some footage at the Lincoln Center and the one and only Dick Button spoke on a panel. Here is a report via CNN: http://outfront.blogs.cnn.com/2013/02/02/whatever-happened-to-figure-skating/
